“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” This meaningful statement and question from Martin Luther King, Jr., is one that still rings true when it comes to our senior community enjoying a fulfilled lifestyle. At Fellowship Square Mesa we understand the importance of creating opportunities for our aging residents to continue caring for others, while they are simultaneously being well cared for at our resort-style senior living campus.

According to studies, volunteering—especially among those 60 years old and over—has been linked with decreased rates of depression and both physical plus mental health benefits. Additionally, the meaningfulness of serving others as a volunteer has been known to help reduce stress and may even contribute to living longer, as some studies suggest. It allows seniors to utilize and share valuable skills they’ve learned over the years, gives them a sense of purpose, and enables them to strengthen relationships while also meeting new people.

Senior residents at Fellowship Square Mesa have enjoyed many outreach activities in our community. Our robust monthly calendar of events offers ways that new connections can be made while our campus neighbors get to know each other better through the process. One example is the long-term relationship that we have with nearby schools in the city of Mesa, where both the younger and older generations learn from each other and have fun together. There is also off-campus and on-campus volunteering provided by our senior residents to local churches, communities in need, and national outreach programs. On a weekly basis, our volunteers help prepare hundreds of free, nutritious meals that are delivered to community neighbors of all ages and in various stages of life. Many other service project possibilities abound, just like the happiness it provides.

Whether you are interested in becoming a resident at Fellowship Square Mesa or not, come join us for some purposeful volunteering.
